Happy Thai New Year

Category :

We wake up and decide to explore properly kao san road and around. I now have a totally different impression this time than my first week here. It's a bit how I imagine tenerife with all the westerners... as we are walking around ready to shop we get water squirted at us from a couple of kids.

Ok that's it we get some guns I mean heavy duty pump action water pistols and continue shopping ready for the kids this time.

After organising our dive trips and next few days we shop for sandals, t-shirts, etc, and have some great food. Next after dropping our guns back at the hotel and go for some sight seeing, I want to take gavin on the canal tours, as I loved that last time. We walk to the pier and do the canal tour again, which gavin did love.

After that back to the hotel via kao san road. Kao san road, at this point, has changed since this morning, its not like anything I have ever seen, leicester square, and tenerife combined. The street is packed with everyone, western, thai, old young, male, female, and what are all these intelligent people doing, throwing either bottles of water, buckets of water or water pistols at one another. They take one look at Gavin and I who are at this point dry and think, thats it we are going to get them and they did. I got drenched with ice cold water, buckets, water pistols the lot. Thats it Gavin and I thought, both drenched at this point and pissed off we left out water pistols at the hotel. WE GO BACK FOR THEM THIS IS WAR! WELL NO ACTUALLY IT'S THAI NEW YEAR STARING A DAY EARLIER IN BANGKOK!

After 3 hrs and 4 circuitrs of kao san road getting water thrown all over us, ice cold water, warm water some dough stuff rubbed on our faces we head back. That was the best fun I have had and the longest ever water pistol fight. It was hilarious and everyone was so happy.

After trying to dry off and find a nice place to eat Gavin and I try a Kamikaze cocktail. Its about a pints worth, has everything in it and is bright blue. It is also the foulest drink we have ever had so we decide to drink it very quickly, hense the pissed phone calls to both families which we appologise for. OOPS! Never having that drink again, have never felt so sick!

The following day Gavin and i decide to do some sight seeing by starting with the boat museum, we also have decided we are bored with the water fights so are going to stay dry today! We end up doing a canal tour again (ok, neither of us need ever do this again) to get to see an extra temple the boat museum (which was closed) and be dropped off outside the royal palace.

We do all, Gavin's impressed by the palace, but after 2 hrs walking round in the heat we have both had enough and decide to go back to the hotel and not get wet have somthing to eat and get ready for our night bus trip to Koa Tao for the diving.

Ok this time when we get back there are water fights outside our hotel their is no way we are staying dry. So this time its sod it... back for our guns and a now 4 hour water fight. The guys from the hotel actually fill up buckets of water for us foreigners from the hotel that are outside getting all the passers by wet.

They are also covering us all in this dough like stuff which I found out is like a mud pack if you add water and let dry. At this point we are not only soaked through, our fingers like prunes, but am now covered from head to toe in this gunk... funnily enough so is Gavin and so is everyone else.

After 4 hours we finally had eneough and shower in the hotel loos anbd dry off ready for our bus journey. We meet this american guiy who is short and built like a brick house who tells us he's in the film business. He is an actor/action actor. Baically he's in films doing the fight sequences as he demonstrates to us with great effect. In fact he was so effective I had to surpress my giggle because he WAS JOEY from freinds... the exact replica. After telling us and showing the moves (with sound effects) he did in the latest Oliver Stone film "Alexander", he goes and we try and leg it to the bus while staying dry. Yes the water fights are suppossed to stop at night time, but they haven't and its party time in kao san road.

We get to the shop and wait chatting to two japense people who work there and an ex divemaster. The mini bus driver (who is suppossed to take us to the big bus) escorts us through kao san road to the big bus, walking us through small alley ways so we dont get wet.

Actually we do anyway!
