Cairns to cape tribulation and port douglas

Category :

We left early-ish, and guess what beck and clare are on the same bus. Great!

We stopped for a cuppa, and then on to the daintree river for a boat cruise, where we saw lots of kingfishers and a couple of crocodiles. Big ones this time!

Next was a short walk in the rainforest looking at the mangrove swamps.

After that we hit cape tribulation, where I am staying at a place called "the beach hut". Basically its a small hut in the middle of the rain forest a short walk from the beach. However it started raining like I have never seen.

I book myself on a couple of tours. First it's jungle canopy jumping. They hook you up on harnesses with a bunch of crazy guys, and you go by ropes from canopy top to canopy top. It wasn't as high as I thought, but it was high enough for me!

The worst bit was lowering yourself down, even though you have a seat harness, and trusting the ropes and the person behind you not to let go.

It was great though, a real adreneline rush. Thoroughly enjoyed it because andy, ian and steve (steve owns half the island, and its his business) are crazy enough! They are all scientists, ian a marine biologist, and andy a zoologist. Nutters the pair.

Next was a night trek after a nap. There isn't much to do there when its raining, except sleep. I spotted a red something something - very rare apparently. There was a snake, a tree frog, a rat of some kind and lots of crickets and bugs. The amazing thing was that there is a fungi growing in the bark that's decaying and falling to the floor. When you turn your lights out its luminous. That was eary. Oh and one anoying american who just wouldn't stop pointing out small insignificant things and not doing as he was told... like stay on the path... don't touch that venomous snake... I said don't touch that venomous snake... I said... oh what the hell, let it bite you!

The next day, after very little sleep, and yep the first night I talked in my sleep while away, and yes, it was embarrassing! I go for a horse riding thing. For a start the organisers got it wrong so there were not enough horses for beginners. I got a beginner one called banjo... thank god. For those of you that don't know I am a bit scared of horses! Anyhow I was nervous but soon relaxed. Then they got us to trot. I didn't like that.

We went for about 2 - 3rs whith a bit of a trot and canter along the way. Mads you would be proud I even did a yeeha when it went fast. The only problem was after the second canter the woman on the horse in front fell off. That was scary to see. No ones fault the horse just stumpled and she wasn't experienced enough to pull it up and stay on so she tumbled over the top,. Luckily the horse didn't fall on her on anyone and just went off. She had a good cry as was in shock then got straight back on. Good on her. She was covered in dirt though and it was her luck it happened to her a s she was on honey moon. Her husband soon came trottign back to see if ok.

After that our nut case of a bus driver martin took us back. He got everyone to sing as that's his bag baby! They are all nuts in cape trib I have decided. Next it was the bus journey back to port douglas stopping at mossoman gorge where I recoignised from 5 years ago and then a ni stay at port douglas.

I stayed at the parrot fish back packers in my own room. I treated myself this time as was sick of sharing and gettign woken up with piss heads at 3 in the morning or other back packers waking me up at 6 am going off to trips. Am longing for a complete nights sleep now.

Well I took myself off for a walk round town the ususal parcel sending home and postcards then forfilling my craving for some thai food. It's not like thailand... i need to go back there to get my red curry or chicken with cahsew nuts fix as his wasn't as good. Luckily it's a BYO so I took my half bottle of white wine and finsihed it off in my room. An ace evening!

Next mornign I had time to kill and was feeling a bit under the weather and no not not just from the bottle of white wine. So i went for a reiki consultation at this spa. Unfortunately the person doing that wouldn't be in till 5 and my bus was at 4 so they said i should go for a spiritual healer. I thought thsi was just like reiki.

I turned up and this woman explained that she has a guardian spririt who controls 12 healers and she just passes their mesages on. She and the spirits will spend half an hr exmining me and then the next half an hour telling me the results. It was really weird she occaisionlly touchedm my dshoulders but mainly feet and there was like a prickerl;y heat sensation.

Next for teh consultation she told me her guardian who is an indian from puru called strong bow and he brings forward one of the 12 spirits. Normally in priority for what you need. The first spirit that came through was david as in the satr of david. He said I was carying a lost soul that for what ever reason can not go back to the light or move on. Instead because of a traumer, death, berreavement, strees, realtionship break up (that happened 2 years ago) I have let in. This stops me from progressing or being creative. So she and david got rid of my lost soul which was really strange. I felt it literrally leave my chest and an empty space remain which she filled with craetivity so I should go off and opaint or write or something.

Also she gave me an exercise to do when the shower. Imagine this neon blue light travelling through my body and get rid of any negativity. There was another spirit who put a protection around me and will let me have an oportunity and gave me the 6th sight or 6th shankra to see this oportunity. I am still waiting for that one.

Of course its if you believe in thsi sort of stuff. Well I felt ace afterwards and ready to catch the bus back to cairns. Guess who i then meet again...Bec and Clare. It's getting ridiculous all the goodbye's we are doing.

Well we get back and they go for a quiet night as we are meeting up for a tour of kurranda and the aboriginal centre there.

Hi Alex

Nice to here you have made it to sunny Queensland. I'm sure you will have a great time. Have you organised accomodation in 1770 yet? If you need any help call my sister Katherine at 1770 Holidays 07 49749422. I have let her know you are passing through and to give you any help if you need. They also have a boat that goes out to Fitroy reef, which I think is the best reef I've seen. If you want to go diving speak to Tim Lawry. He is a friend I went to school with and he has started his own dive company, Tim is a great laugh. There is a couple of backpackers up there as well or if you have a few people there is alot of holiday shacks or camping grounds that can be pretty cheap if everyone puts in. Kath can let you know the best options. Also the pub at Agnes sucks but The Tree at 1770 is pretty cool, for a drink and a meal. Talk to you soon. At Airlie I fully recommend going to Whitehaven Beach, it is one of those perfect beaches where nature just out does itself. Just dont forget your sunglasses and camera.
