Next day we both left about 7ish for a night boat from koh tao across thialand then a public bus to the national park. The night boat was literally a matress between two (small matress) and a pillow each. Which is great if some morron doesn't steal you pillow and matress and be difficult about numbered seating... basically we went to the seat numbers and this girl complained, and says it doesn't matter... guess what it does, so we both had the worst sleep ever then got to the cafe stop where you swap busses an hour early then got the public bus to the park. It drops you off 3km outside and people wait for you and try and sell you rooms.
Continue reading "Koh Tao to Khao Sok National park"Well we spent a day cruising round the island on motos. How embarrassing is this.... the motorbike rider fell off. In my defense I was on a little scooter going up a steep hill that was made of sand and just didn't give it enough welly so fell off laughing. Gavin came running to rescue. Few scratches but one guy on a dirt bike had problems, so i didn't feel bad and you want to see the amount of people here on crutches because of moto accidents. Not sure if i have mentioned this or not.
This is why I have not updated regulary been doing exams as you will see.
Well, we arrived. Probably the nicest buss I have been on so far. Double decker, TV playing Lost in space, air conn, comfy chairs, blanket... didn't get one wink of sleep. Boy does Gavin fidget!
We get to the ferry port about 5am, get this big catamaran to the island. Wow! Sandy beaches, beach huts, boats, blue skies WOW! Guess what more water pistols when the taxi picks us up to go to our resort, we are drenched again.
We wake up and decide to explore properly kao san road and around. I now have a totally different impression this time than my first week here. It's a bit how I imagine tenerife with all the westerners... as we are walking around ready to shop we get water squirted at us from a couple of kids.
Ok that's it we get some guns I mean heavy duty pump action water pistols and continue shopping ready for the kids this time.
Continue reading "Happy Thai New Year"Well sorry I have not updated this sooner but we have been very busy. To start with it was an interesting border crossing. We were told we were travelling in a VIP air conditioned bus. Well it was true we were travelling in a bus, but a small mini van which picked us up from our hotel at 7am which we were told would take us to the bigger bus. An hour later and we are still driving round Siem Reap, as ther bus driver seems to be lost already... not a good sign considering we have not gone anywhere.
Our new moto driver arranges to take us everywhere over the next 3 days. I think we were over-charged a bit but he was really nice and has taken us everywhere. The first day we went and got our $40 entry pass to the temples and went to angkor what where we walked up steep steps to the towers, got nearly scented to death by incense, and then watched the sunset of angor wat. Wasn't much of a sunset it was just the sun and it's glow making wonderful shapes behind the clouds with the temples in the background.
Our tuk tuk drivers brother arrived early in the morning to take us to the boat station, where we were told you buy food and water, as there was none on the boat. Gavin at this point has now picked up my really bad habbit of speaking pidgeon english to everyone, even him now!
This morning I meet with my moto driver and move to what I think is a better hotel, as Gavin arrives tonight, and I want to make sure we stay somewhere nice.
Greta hotel and good gym...the 6 flights of stairs then a loft stair case youhave to walk up to your room. But great view of some sort of plalace.
Sorry but this has to go down as an entry in itself, "the border crossing from hell".
We were told its an 8 hr trip. It is but 4-5 of those hours are spent at border crossings or ferry crossings.
After a two hour bus journey we reach the border, basically there is nothing there but desert and a few garrages. The garrages are the baggage check and passport control.
Well after an excellent vietnamese airlines flight I arrived at hochi min city and got a cab to the bangkok equivalent of khosan road (backpackers heaven).
I am staying in an ok cheap room for $6 called the Hong Kong (including breakfast), although its small and hot, even with two fans going. The people there are really nice and friendly, and the Banana Pancakes delicious for breakfast.
